Dubbed vs Subtitled – Anime And Foreign Films

by Mourning Daily on February 3, 2014 at 3:06 PM
Posted In: Thoughts And Opinions

The first thing that you need to know is English is my primary language. I enjoy watching live action movies and cartoons that are not created in USA. Are you a fan of foreign language films?

I watch foreign films dubbed in English and not dubbed. I prefer to have the option to watch the movies in both ways. My bedroom has a small TV in it. When I am there, I feel like focusing on the images instead of reading the text. My living room has a slightly larger TV. That makes it easier to read the subtitled text. With that in mind I prefer to buy the foreign films with audio and subtitle options.

Action, horror movies and high movement movies I prefer dubbed auto. I feel like I might miss something if there is too much movement on the screen. Sometimes I have to rewind the movie and watch parts again because I missed something. Slow story lines, comedy and romance I usually watch the subtitles.

There are reasons for the foreign films to invest in dubbed audio. The positive part is many people are too lazy to read the subtitles. They have to have the audio in their language. Or they would just not watch the movie. So, dubbing a movie in a different language opens the movie to a larger audience.

Think of the animated movie THE PRINCE OF EGYPPT (Val Kilmer). It was dubbed in a ton of different languages and was released worldwide. If they only offered it in English audio do you think it would have had the same impact around the world?

The downside is the dubbed voice might not match the characters appearance. It is also annoying to watch when the mouth movement of the characters does not match the audio. It is simply distracting to watch. Another downside is songs or musical parts in movies sometimes seem silly dubbed in your spoken language. However they seem magical in the original foreign language.

Do you prefer to watch those films dubbed in your own language? Or do you prefer reading subtitles and listening to foreign language? Also, do you think that the subtitles should perfectly match the dubbed audio? What are your favorite foreign films?

These Are A Few Of The Foreign Films That I Would Recommend.

Live Action

  • Asoka (Bollywood) – So Far Every Epic Bollywood Movie With Shah Rukh Khan And Kareena Kapoor That I Have Watched Has Been Amazing.

How Working As A Artist Changes My Art

by Mourning Daily on January 31, 2014 at 4:36 PM

I usually enjoy creating drawings and paintings. Spending hours upon hours creating artwork was fun. At this time I only did it for personal enjoyment. I liked it so much that I decided to pursue being an artist for a career.
After awhile I decided to work on my own Graphic Novel. Then something dark and gloomy attached itself to my artwork…deadlines. Oh no!!!! Deadlines turn tend to make moments when creating artwork into a chore. You can’t stop working even if you don’t feel the creative magic. Think of the joys of staying up all night working on your project. Then, you grumpily going to work the next day without sleep.
On the flip side, eventually I had a Graphic Novel completed. The dark and gloomy feeling went away and I felt proud of my accomplishment. My first graphic novel was printed! Whoo Hoo!!
Since creating my first Graphic Novel I found something else that I need to improve on. (Besides Poor Time Management.) I noticed that the number of “for fun” artworks declined dramatically. So, I decided I will reward myself when I complete a deadline. The reward is I will set aside time to just create works of art just for fun.
I learned that being an Artist should not be just going from one job to the next. You need to draw or paint just for the enjoyment of it as well.

Right now they are in their Travel around the yard cage. I want to build a larger cage for them in the spring. Once they are moved I want to make the smaller cage will be for any new chicks.

Convention Questions – So, you want to be an Artist / Writer?

by Mourning Daily on January 19, 2014 at 7:44 AM
Posted In: Thoughts And Opinions

Conventions are a great place to network and meet other artists and writers. You get to talk to young and aspiring all the way to seasoned published artists and writers. After a few conventions I noticed young and aspiring artist asking the same questions. The most common question I get at conventions is…..
I want to be a well known artist or writer. What should I do to reach my goal?
First of all there is not a simple one size fits all answer for this. Most people working the tables at a convention are in the same boat as the young and aspiring artist or writer. Practically every Independent Artist and Writer wants to know the big secret to make it big. Those who are lucky enough to get their first break may have trouble pushing their next creation out. No one wants to end up as a one hit wonder.

My advice for artists and writers is work your technique and produce consistently. Practice generally improves the quality of work for an artist and writer. Producing work consistently is the key.
Imagine if you were a fan of a Independent comic and had to wait years for the next installment of the story. What if that next installment never comes out? You usually lose fans if they don’t see your work constantly come out. If you keep yourself on a reasonable time table your fans will be happier.
There is one main thing harder than producing consistently…….. It is finding a way to market yourself and your work. This is something that should be constantly worked on. A place to start is making a internet presence about your work. Anything from a full blown website to a free blog will work as a starting point.

If I wasn’t an artist, I’d would be…

Don’t you love those what if questions? What if you did this instead of that? I started thinking about my chosen career path.

Being an artist takes up time and resources. I wondered what if I did not try to pursue a career as an artist? What job would I have chosen?
If I was not a artist I would probably be a History Teacher or something where I could travel.
When I was in college I started taking a ton of History classes that I did not have to take. I had enough credits already. I was talking them just for the enjoyment. At the time I was seriously thinking about becoming a High School History teacher. Then I talked to a few Teachers who told me the downside of teaching. The thought of loud and obnoxious children, unhelpful parents and low pay ended that possibility. I sometimes think what if….. Would I be happier if I ignored their advice?
Who knows… It is always entertaining to think about what if?
