I usually enjoy creating drawings and paintings. Spending hours upon hours creating artwork was fun. At this time I only did it for personal enjoyment. I liked it so much that I decided to pursue being an artist for a career.
After awhile I decided to work on my own Graphic Novel. Then something dark and gloomy attached itself to my artwork…deadlines. Oh no!!!! Deadlines turn tend to make moments when creating artwork into a chore. You can’t stop working even if you don’t feel the creative magic. Think of the joys of staying up all night working on your project. Then, you grumpily going to work the next day without sleep.
On the flip side, eventually I had a Graphic Novel completed. The dark and gloomy feeling went away and I felt proud of my accomplishment. My first graphic novel was printed! Whoo Hoo!!
Since creating my first Graphic Novel I found something else that I need to improve on. (Besides Poor Time Management.) I noticed that the number of “for fun” artworks declined dramatically. So, I decided I will reward myself when I complete a deadline. The reward is I will set aside time to just create works of art just for fun.
I learned that being an Artist should not be just going from one job to the next. You need to draw or paint just for the enjoyment of it as well.
